“Tipogravia” is a project of visual and urban exploration that tells the story of Rome through the typography hidden in its manhole covers. The letterforms, captured using the frottage technique and later digitised, become narrative elements of the city’s alleyways.
Thanks to the leporello format, which unfolds lengthwise, the project faithfully reconstructs Via della Frezza, mapping the exact position of each manhole cover from above. The result is an unprecedented cartography in which the urban landscape is represented exclusively through the typographic characters found on the ground.
